Appreciating the Waves: A reflection on music and healing.

Music

Music is so important.

It relates and attaches to us. Or maybe it’s us that attaches to it. Like our being finds the songs that we’re on frequency with and we jump on. And our soul rides it into immersion.

Sunset over a tree-lined neighborhood with warm orange light near the horizon and soft blue, gray, and golden clouds stretching across the sky.

As I’ve been moving through the healing process I have been brought back to the variety of music that has been many things to me over the years.

And what I’ve seen is that, as I have healed I’ve been able to listen to music as it is without being pulled into it. What was an immersion isn't anymore. Instead, I stand on the shore seeing the music, seeing the waves, and appreciating them.

There is a peaceful acceptance of the version of me who needed to ride that wave.

I see her with an understanding that she didn’t have even while living it.

And for that I am thankful.

Because I know that each version of that girl is loved. Each wave she rode, fully immersed in whatever feelings, fears, beliefs, and identities that she was experiening and building. She was there. Riding the wave. Making it through to the next day, and the next one after that. She was strong.

She may have needed to wait for me to get to this place in order to be truly loved and accepted. And so here we are, now. And there she is. And she is loved.
