The Space Between Who You Were and Who You’re Becoming
There are moments in life that define you. Some of those moments the circumstances happen and are out of your control. One thing I have learned is that there is always a choice of who you will be in those moments.
We all have them.
None of us are special, (based by virtue of circumstances.)
So why should a person talk about it? Share it? Make an example of it?
Because we're all human. And we all need community. And we also learn from the shared experience of other humans.
Pin-pointing a singular circumstance that defined me, or you. That will never happen. At least not in this space. I have taken my strengths finder, and 'connectedness' is in my top 3. I believe just under Woo and one other strength that always slips my mind.
So who are we?
A sum of who we have been?
Our greatest goals and desires?
I lean more towards the space in between.
I believe that we are who our past has shaped, and the we are also our motivators, and most relevantly we are the reactions, thoughts, beliefs, and decisions that we make in every single in between moment. We are never without a choice. We are always capable of change. And we are always loved fiercely in the most cosmic, expansive, and true way possible
Yea, yea. That last one may have thrown you. But I know that we have a Creator who has always loved us, even when we were at our most unloveable. (Here's a little throwback video to a saved periscope. Point is at 2:20)
Something that I have been feeling lately is a place of knowing my past self. I mean obviously I was there and I lived those experiences, but in a lot of those moments I was not present, or I had a limiting perspective. And if I'm being completely honest, not all of who I was was bad. There is a whole world around me right now that I live in on a daily basis who hasn't the slightest clue as to who those versions of me were.
At least in my experience, I have kept the past versions completely in the past and with each turn of the "What On Earth Is Life Like Now" wheel, I have just absolutely left those Brenna's behind.
You know what, some of them were pretty fun and some of them had zeal and passion. Some of them need the healing experienced by this version of me.
Whew it's a good thing therapy sessions get to start back once kids get back in school! 😅
So possibly the thought is,
1: You're not stuck in your circumstances, ever.
2: Share your circumstances and learn from others shared experiences.
3: Be kind to each version of you, & know that you're doing your best.
4: Accept the love offered to you. The crazy, unrestricted, full love of God. He's really not asking anything from you except to let him love you.
